Little Squaw: Where a good girl goes to rant.
Long time no Squaw. Sunday, April 18, 2004Down below...body found buried face down under my carport!I am going to bed soon because I am exhausted. Gilly and I turned Farmer Brown today and got all up in the mulch. Very tiring. Highlights of the day...we went to "Joey's" which is a greasy takeout that we had on our "To Do" list. We intend to hit every old school takeout joint in Jersey which we've ever passed and/or read about. We're convinced that they'll all be gone sooner than later. Rutts' Hut home of the "Ripper" is on our list as well. If you don't want to know what that means you probably have arteries that aren't as badly clogged as everyone who's ever eaten there. It's a deep fried hotdog and apparently they are to die for. Litterally? Anyway, Joey's caught our eye because of the bright yellow roof and the life size (as in as tall as me) dancing hotdog statue outside of it. We stopped in after church and on our way to get some mulch (ugh) and grocery shop...so we go inside and the place is tiny...and there's a massive chalkboard wrapping around the wall above the counter with about a million things written on it. We figure if you visit a place with a dancing dog you have to eat a dog, yes? So we each get something called a "Texas Dog" which was a rather long hotdog, "chili", mustard and onion. I passed on the onions. We shared a fry and each got a Coke (diet for me and uncut for Gilly). The "chili" was too sweet with no beans, but the dog was okay. The fries were not so good. I think that they were pre-cooked and then redipped if you know what I mean. Highlights include the counter girl who we weren't entirely certain could speak because she was entirely silent the whole time that she waited on us. Plus she had a very interesting outfit on...olive green, satin cargo capris and a white sheer shortsleeve top with a white clam shell bra underneath. Not a spot on the white. Pretty good for working in a takeout joint. I noticed something on the Coke cups which were the ones that Coke gives to the places that they service...the cups had lines on them which showed how far they should be filled with ice and then they had lines that showed how high they should be filled with Coke. First the Taco Bell height thingy now this. Back in the day when I was on the takeout circuit we didn't need lines and graphs to fill cups up correctly. Sheesh. So on a scale of one - ten I gave Joey's: Ambiance - 6 (mostly because of the statue...) Food - 4 (double dipping fries in the fat is BAD) Gilly gave it: Ambiance - 4 Food - 6 (???) And the weirdest thing of the day??? I was raking...yes you guessed it...the mulch under the carport and I hit something made of plastic. I thought to myself, "UGH, don't tell me that they buried a water bottle upside down." I had my gardening gloves on (aren't I domestic) so I dug around the plastic with my hand...it was a small sealed clear plastic container kind of like a margarine container but lower...I couldn't make out the printing on it. But inside was something FLESH COLORED!!! And I was like, "Uh, oh..." Well I clean it off, 'cause if it was a finger I wasn't opening it up...but inside was a small Saint! Very strange yes? I showed it to Gill and he said he'd heard about that sort of thing. People burying Saints in their gardens to help ithem grow? Well I called his mom later and told her about it and she said it was probably St. Joseph. I told her he was buried face down and she said people do that to help sell their houses. But she didn't understand why the people who had the house before us might have done that because they weren't Italian and it's definately an Italian thing. But I told her that the people who built the house were Italian. We don't know why they would have left poor St. Joseph in the ground once they left. Anyway...we're going to keep him safe until we want to sell the house. Gilly is half Italian you know. G'Night posted by JustKeepMum on 10:54 PM | ||
