New Year's Eve and it's hard to believe
another zodiac has gone around.

While you drank yourself high on hoping
and watched the ceiling spin from the ground.

Counting down from ten it's time
to make your annual prayer.

Secret santa in the sky
when will I get my share?

Then you tell yourself
what you want to hear.

Cause you have to believe.

This will be my year.

This will be my year...Semisonic

Caution: Exhaustion induced poorly constructed sentences ahead.

So we're recovering from the day spent feeding people. Our kitchen is small enough that only two people can comfortably move around in it at a time, two experienced people that is. It's much like galley on a boat. So I spent most of my time maneuvering and sending various courses to the dining room.

That is after "the great artichoke incident" meaning Gilly was going to make them and I had to step in because it was going awry. Note to self, "Self...leave husband alone in the kitchen to fend for himself. This will assure that he learns where everything is...eventually."

Plus he was concerned with me wearing my camo embroidered pants. Which for the record are so out I can only wear them at home or to the grocery store...but apparently they aren't "Easter friendly." Guess who's on the couch in a pair of camo pants now?

Other than that everything went well down to the shrimp presented dangling off the edge of martini glasses filled with crushed ice with lemon wedges nestled in the center...our crushed ice maker has a name and for some reason we use it. It's not "Where's the ice crusher?" It's "Where's Groggy?"

Our life is very special here.

But lest you waste away wondering what we served...here's the complete menu.

Starting...martinis...Bombay Saphire/vermouth/shaken

Round #1
Shrimp cocktail (as described above)
Mozzarella/tomatos/fresh basil/balsamic vinegar/extra virgin olive oil
Deviled Eggs (extra horseradish)
Sesame breadsticks
Champagne

Round #2
White wine
(I finished off the bottle of champagne)
Stuffed artichokes - I don't eat the damn things.

Round #3
Turkey - Gilly doesn't eat ham, hence the turkey...
Stuffing
Cranberry sauce
Ham
Kilbasa
Alaskan Salmon/pan seared with a herb dressing - Sister in law doesn't eat meat hence the fish...very expensive piece of fish 1lb to be exact $20 a lb. What do I know about fish? I didn't want to get something gross!
Broiled asparagus with a balsamic dressing
Vinegar coleslaw
Potato salad (with bacon on the side - see sister in law mention)
White wine
Would have had gravy but the gravy boat broke while I was pouring it in. UGH. Thankfully not the Wedgewood one.

Round #4
Chocolate cake with a chocolate glaze. I need to say here that my cake looked like it came out of a bakery and tasted just as good. I think that I may have found my niche.
Vanilla ice cream
Coffee ice cream
European Cookies
Coffee

Round #5
Send everyone home with a little bag of butterscotch bark

Cooking Milestones?
1st turkey
1st ham
1st artichokes
1st salmon
1st asparagus
1st butterscotch bark
1st Easter Dinner

We spent a great deal of time washing things as we went along. Thankfully for that everything is clean and put away except the three cake stands and the roasting pan (had to let the fat harden)...

I sent my mother in law home with half a ham, 8 fresh artichokes, two bags of bark, four cans of tomato juice (I snuck those in)...half a chocolate cake, her autographed Brian Lamb book which for the record she almost fell off her chair when I gave it to her AND when I told her that I told him that she thinks he's a hunk (need more info? read the old post from March)...and last but not least the "Wacking Willy" wind up figure which Gilly and I bought her. Put two and two together...it's Clinton well...waxing poetic shall we say. She hates him. It's obscene...she's proper yet irreverent so she thought that it was very funny. We didn't tell her where we got it though. Tee hee.

So, the TiVo didn't record the Soprannos and we're going to stay up to watch the west coast feed.

Tomorrow I am going to the "girl doctor" and then we're going to the eye doctor later in the afternoon. WOOPEE!
