New Year's Eve and it's hard to believe
another zodiac has gone around.

While you drank yourself high on hoping
and watched the ceiling spin from the ground.

Counting down from ten it's time
to make your annual prayer.

Secret santa in the sky
when will I get my share?

Then you tell yourself
what you want to hear.

Cause you have to believe.

This will be my year.

This will be my year...Semisonic

Jody, who art thou?

So I was eating lunch and tip tapping happily. Then a tech guy comes in and tells me he has to put something on my computer and it's going to take about an hour. Now forget the blog, but I can't get anything done away from my desk let alone when I am without a computer.

So, what did I do? I've got a stack of footage next to my desk of Fountains of Wayne. Oh, yes, Fountains of Wayne. So I went into our little room with the small rack and sat down on the floor (so I wouldn't hurt my neck bending down to see the beta deck) and started to take time codes of the footage that I wanted to pull...

1996...120 Minutes...They were so much younger then!!! This stuff is hysterical. I won't tell everything I learned yet, but probably the most interesting thing fact was that I realized that in all these years I don't think I've ever really heard Jody speak. One 120 Minutes interview later and still I can't say that I really have yet. He said about two sentences. But I have a new theory. I always thought that Jody was a bit snarky. He never smiles. He never speaks. He often appears like he's drunk out of his skull. But my views have changed having watched his body language and having heard those couple of sentences. It makes perfect sense why this band is together.

Okay, here's my new spin on Jody. He's very very talented. He probably was very talented from a very young age, had role models and aspirations to be like them, practiced in his room, that sort of thing. But I think he's like that friend that your older brother or sister always had. You know the one who's cute and who's very good at something cool? You know the one that you have a crush on but you won't admit it, yet you always manage to be in the room when they're at your house? Or even the person who's a year or two older than you in school who always seems to have that look on their face? The one that makes them look like they are about to laugh at a joke that you haven't heard yet? That person who always has some interesting book or cd in their hand that sets them apart from the sheep that they roll with? The one that if you actually had a conversation with they'd realize that you are way cooler than their poser friends and fall madly in lust with you and wisk you off to some dance or better yet "their" room?

Then the big day comes and some how you've managed to end up alone in a room with them. And somehow you manage to make a fumbling attempt at conversation. You totally remain cool and say something amazingly witty/insightful/profound...and how do they respond? Exactly like one of their "friends" even shyly if you will. And there you go...they've fallen off the pedestal right to your feet. The grand illusion is gone and you're left with nothing to aspire to.

You feel like you've been duped and then you feel bitter.

Meaning that most people are just regular people and most of the time we're responsible for our own disappointment based on our unrealistic expections.

I expected Jody to be snarky and have a sly witt that's been overshadowed by Adam's chattiness and Chris' "persona." That was his assigned role in the group in my book.

Adam-chatty, smart, self depreciating witt, slightly cutting humor but not enough to burn you too much
Chris-sarcastic, quiet, almost sullen, sensitive, intelligent and funny
Brian-total, alterna rock star, fuck all, living large
Jody-drunk, drugged, snarky, quiet, talented

Well when Jody talked, that veil dropped...he became...just a regular guy and actually very shy. He spoke quietly and never raised his head.

Hmmmm...now doesn't that change things? It makes me like him more!
