New Year's Eve and it's hard to believe
another zodiac has gone around.

While you drank yourself high on hoping
and watched the ceiling spin from the ground.

Counting down from ten it's time
to make your annual prayer.

Secret santa in the sky
when will I get my share?

Then you tell yourself
what you want to hear.

Cause you have to believe.

This will be my year.

This will be my year...Semisonic

SERENDIPITY

So I wanted to go to bed earlier and I had planned to do so but I was reading in bed and despite my bit of tiff with Gill regarding the inability for the TV in the living room to tune to any other channel then Discovery Wings when he's in his chair the day had been okay.

I was finishing up "Songbook" by Nick Hornby
Not exactly what I expected but entertaining none the less. There's something very cool about a man in his mid 40's who has a healthy perspective about his talent, who has a passion for music and who faces some pretty daunting circumstances with a brave face (one messy divorce and his young son is autistic). It made me like him even more.

But there I was puttering around reading essays about songs I may or (more often) may not be very familar with and I decided to read the Discography which gives a brief blurb about each song mentioned in the book.

Now a brief history about my history with this book. I would have bought it when it first came out but I was weening myself off buying books and making the most of my public library. My wait was well worth it because the most current paperback version has some updates (additional essays)...

I get to the last page...with a list titled Some New Favorite Songs 2002/2003 and what's the last song on that list? Sitting on the page like a perfect golden punctuation mark?

"Hackensack," Fountains of Wayne.

How cool is that?
